Systems Engineer

Title: Systems Engineer

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Systems Engineer to bring our vision to life.

As a Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for initial high-level system design including general electrical systems and plant generation modeling for large PV projects. You will be involved with projects at the early stage of development and continually contribute refinements as pricing, site feasibility, electrical and interconnection designs evolve This position will be part of the Systems group working closely with other groups including Business Development, Engineering and Operations, as well as field testing, and project performance testing. JUWI is looking for a candidate who maintains a professional attitude with a background in electrical engineering who has excellent communication skills.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Perform initial system design & optimization and act as an internal point of contact for assigned project design technical details.
  • Work with Business Development group to support technical and performance aspects required to respond to RFP opportunities.
  • Contribute to generation modeling improvement and collaborate with team members for accuracy and optimization.
  • Contribute to operating plant forecast and performance reporting systems.
  • Provide financing technical support for generation models and performance guarantees while contributing new ideas and innovative methods.
  • Support system optimization efforts by critically analyzing current designs, equipment selection, specifications, and plant performance.
  • Deliver performance guarantee analysis.
  • Provide operating plant performance testing and troubleshooting technical input if underperformance is identified or suspected.
  • Generate creative cost reduction/design improvements for application into new projects or test facilities.
  • Stay current on latest design tools, methods, and cost reduction measures offered or deployed in the industry.
  • Develop automated internal tools for improved design efficiency and performance.
  • Oversee, deploy, and maintain prospector weather station equipment and contribute to its design and data acquisition method.
  • Support on-going equipment testing on site and remotely, propose and support the testing and qualification of new equipment.
  • Contribute to long term engineering and operating plant research and apply lessons learned to latest designs.

 

Qualifications:

  • A solid understanding of solar and electrical engineering, production modeling and power generation principles
  • Highly developed understanding and application of solar modeling methods including PVSYST, SAM, PVCase, SolarGIS, or similar.
  • Experience processing, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and analyze complex situations.
  • Accredited university degree (electrical engineering preferred) and 5 or more years of PV plant engineering.
  • Strong computer skills, including software tools such as Matlab, Python, data acquisition systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  The ability to efficiently deliver information through whatever means best suits the situation, individual and role.
  • Be familiar with the quality assurance requirements necessary in an electrical and instrumentation installation environment.
  • The foresight, awareness, and ability to take the first steps to advance toward a goal, solve a problem, and/or pursue a new idea with or without direct guidance.
  • Possess exemplary standards of honor, safety, management, ethics, quality, and productivity.
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks.
  • Team player, stress-resistant; periodic project related travel may be required.

 

Preferences:

  • Familiarity with utility scale interconnection process or grid network modelling.
  • Master’s degree in a technical field.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Awareness of NERC requirements and design implementation.

Development Engineer

Title: Development Engineer

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Development Engineer to bring our vision to life.

As a Development Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your industry knowledge, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, resourcefulness, and good judgement to develop utility scale solar (PV) projects. This position will own all engineering work from project conception through PPA execution, and presents an opportunity be part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do and innovative attitude thrives.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Perform and coordinate all engineering activities occurring during the development phase of a project, including:
    • Completing initial site assessments and fatal flaw analyses to identify project constraints and opportunities.
    • Drafting early-stage array layouts to understand construction feasibility, then derive takeoffs for incorporation into cost models.
    • Modelling project costs based upon layout parameters.
    • Working closely with JUWI’s generation modeling team to ensure that designs are cost-efficient and optimized.
    • Integrating lessons learned from prior projects to improve future project designs.
    • Support grid integration efforts, from application preparation through interconnection agreement signing.
    • Providing technical support and documentation to assist the permitting process.
  • Review Utility Requests for Proposals and contribute to the creation of project proposals.
  • Contribute to, and learn about, project development efforts including site selection, land acquisition, and permitting.
  • Support the Development Team with innovation, analysis and advice on origination and execution of new projects.

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion about renewable energy projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering.
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles; familiarity with PV system technologies and energy systems a plus.
  • 3 – 10 years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications. Proficiency in AutoCAD a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative and organize work in an independent manner

Landman

Title: Landman
Location: Boulder, CO

At JUWI, we’re taking solar energy to the next level. With the goal to bring solar power online over the next several years, we seek a Landman to bring our vision to life.

As a Landman, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your communication capabilities, relationship skills, and strategic mindset to all land-related matters for solar (PV) projects throughout North America. The Landman will focus on negotiating and securing land for potential projects, then maintaining working relationships with landowners throughout the development and construction project phases. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to, and learn about, tangential development work including site selection, site design, land acquisition, and interconnection. This position is part of a broad-scoped, fast-paced team where a can-do attitude and innovation thrive.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Secure land for potential project sites:
    • Initiate communication and establish/maintain working relationships with prospective landowners
    • Work with landowners to understand development limits, access, and other site considerations that could affect a project’s layout and installation
    • Undertake market research to determine fair lease/purchase prices, then represent the company in negotiations of lease/purchase prices and terms
    • Negotiate letters of intent, lease and purchase option agreements, rights-of-way and easements, and other commercial documents related to land acquisition
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members and local governments, and collaborate with project planners to obtain government or regulatory approval for land-related issues, including right-of-way and access easements
  • Perform or facilitate title curative work
  • Participate in internal decision-making on land opportunities and strategies, including prioritization of outreach efforts
  • Maintain up-to-date database of all land outreach efforts
  • Contribute to, and learn about, project development efforts including site selection, site design, land acquisition, and grid integration.
  • Support the Development Team with idea generation, analysis and advice on origination, and execution of new projects.

 

Qualifications:
